Association of Black Journalists Scholarship
The members of the Indianapolis Association of
Black Journalists (IABJ) believe African-American communications professionals
should work together in an effort to increase black employment in the media,
secure more management positions, sensitize all media to overt and institutional
racism, and encourage and educate young African-Americans interested in
communication careers.
IABJ offers a $1,000 scholarship annually to an African-American student who
meets at least one of the following criteria:
Graduate of an Indiana high school that must be able to provide proof of
enrollment in communications/journalism school in the state of Indiana or
elsewhere for the fall of 2005.
Current college student enrolled for the fall of 2006 that is majoring in
communications or journalism at a four-year accredited college or university in
Indiana.
DEADLINE:Spring, 2006
Application materials must be postmarked by the
deadline date.
Application materials include: 1) a completed application, 2) two letters of
recommendation, 3) samples of your work in the media (articles or tapes) and 4)
a 250 to 500-word typed, double-spaced essay on what attracted you to
communications/journalism and your goals within the field.
